A STORY THEMED FOR COASTGUARD 200

Writing Farewell Chapelon took over ten years. The inspiration behind the novel was the realisation that an historic piece of coastal rescue equipment and the special volunteers who operated it has disappeared into obscurity. That the publication of the story has occurred in the same year that HM Coastguard celebrates its 200th anniversary is both appropriate and also has be said, quite lucky, given the way that publishing works. I hope that those auxiliary coastguards and volunteer life brigade members who remember this equipment feel they can look back on their efforts with pride.
As a first time novelist I am now under the guidance of Austin Macauley’s marketing department. One of their suggestions to which I have responded was talking to my local library. They were very pleased to see me and have asked whether I am willing to talk to the various writing and reading groups they sponsor. A request to which I have agreed. A large book store was less then enthusiastic when they were approached.
